Apply be a TA for UAR 194A & UAR 194B

Main content start

Teaching Assistants play a critical role in facilitating and executing the UAR 194A and UAR 194B course sequence. TAs are experienced co-leads who understand the curriculum deeply and are eager to stay involved with the Frosh 101 and Transfer 101 program, facilitate group discussions, and act as a resource for the next cohort of co-leads.

TA Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Attend TA Orientation late Winter quarter.
  • Attend your assigned section of UAR 194A (Spring) and UAR 194B (Fall).
  • Attend weekly TA prep meetings before class.
  • For each course, work with a group of students and facilitate curriculum (e.g., guide discussions/activities, take attendance, etc.).
  • Represent the Frosh 101 & Transfer 101 program at various events (i.e., New Student Orientation, Admit Weekend, Winter Warm-Up).
  • Host TA drop-in hours per quarter (schedule determined with teaching team).

Eligibility

  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. If hired, onboarding will require I-9 verification.
  • All student hiring is subject to University policy and guidelines for undergraduate student employment.
  • Any students interested in being a TA are welcome to apply; however, students who completed Frosh 101 / Transfer 101 and have previously been a co-lead will be given higher consideration for selection.
  • TAs must commit to helping facilitate the in-person courses UAR 194A (Spring) and UAR 194B (Fall). Students who are away from campus for either quarter (e.g., studying away, on a leave of absence, have graduated, etc.) are not eligible to participate.
  • Note for student-athletes: Serving as a co-lead is a paid position. Before applying for or committing to the position, student-athletes are encouraged to confer their eligibility with Compliance Services.

Compensation

  • Student hires will be paid hourly, at a competitive range of $18.30 - $22.30, depending on experience.
  • Undergraduate students may work a maximum of 15 total hours each week, counting all campus jobs.
  • While this is an hourly, non-exempt position subject to overtime rules and regulations, overtime is not expected and has not been authorized for this position.
  • Compensation will be issued over two pay periods per month, ending on the 15th and last day of each month.

Application Process

  • Determine if you are eligible and able to commit, and submit an application for consideration. Applications will open in early Winter.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to schedule an interview with the program staff, and decisions will be released mid-Winter before Spring enrollment opens.
